| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Gordon Richard Schnulle of Elgin, who | 4 | | passed away on April 21, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle was born in Elgin on August 25, | 6 | | 1925 to Gordon William and Ethel M. (nee Zornow) Schnulle; he | 7 | | attended school in Elgin and then served in the United States | 8 | | Marine Corps during World War II; he married Dorothy L. Ferhman | 9 | | on May 8, 1948; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle served as a corporal from 1942 to | 11 | | 1946 and fought in the pivotal battle at Iwo Jima during World | 12 | | War II; he was part of the 8th wave of Marines to storm the | 13 | | island, serving as a machine gunner in H Company, 3rd | 14 | | Battalion, 28th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division and was | 15 | | there for the entirety of the 36-day battle, which saw his | 16 | | company of Marines reduced to only 39 soldiers from | 17 | | approximately 266; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Following his service, Gordon Schnulle was | 19 | | employed for many years at the Elgin Corrugated Box Company as | 20 | | head maintenance man; he also obtained his real estate license | 21 | | and his General Education Diploma, having dropped out of school | 22 | | to enlist in the military at age 16; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle was an accomplished knife maker, | 2 | | taxidermist, doll house maker, and after 9/11, spent countless | 3 | | hours speaking on behalf of service men and women; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle was preceded in death by his | 5 | | parents, and by his son, Ronald Lang; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle is survived by his wife of 66 | 7 | | years, Dorothy; his sons, Gerald (Marilyn) Lang, Keith (Debbie) | 8 | | Schnulle, Kevin (Pat) Schnulle, and daughter-in-law, Vicki | 9 | | Lang; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as | 10 | | countless other friends and relatives; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | Gordon Richard Schnulle, and extend our sincere condolences to | 14 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 15 | | further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Gordon Schnulle as an expression of | 18 | | our deepest sympathy.
