2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Kenneth K. Hamsher of Fox Lake, who |
4 | | passed away on June 22, 2014; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hamsher was born on October 22, 1922 in |
6 | | Flint, Michigan; he was a veteran of the United States Army |
7 | | during World War II and a charter member of the Johnsburg |
8 | | (Volunteer) Rescue Squad; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hamsher owned and operated the K.K. |
10 | | Hamsher Funeral Home (formerly the Justen-Hamsher Funeral |
11 | | Home) from 1953 until his passing; he provided emergency care |
12 | | to Fox Lake and the surrounding communities through his |
13 | | ambulance service until the Fox Lake Rescue Squad came into |
14 | | existence; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hamsher was a member of St. Bede Catholic |
16 | | Church in Ingleside, the Fox Lake Chamber of Commerce, the |
17 | | American Legion Post 703, and the Fox Lake Lions Club; he was a |
18 | | charter member of the Lakeland Cardinals Football Team and was |
19 | | a member of its Board of Directors; he sponsored the Blind |
20 | | Bowlers Association and Grant Township Little League; he was a |
21 | | former member of the Lake County Sheriff's Merit Commission and |
22 | | he served one term on the Grant High School Board, 2 terms as |

1 | | trustee for the Village of Fox Lake, and as Mayor of Fox Lake; |
2 | | and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hamsher enjoyed collecting and |
4 | | refurbishing antique cars, including his 1927 Meteor Hearse |
5 | | which he drove in many Fox Lake parades; he also enjoyed |
6 | | boating on Chain O'Lakes and gardening; he was an avid Chicago |
7 | | Bears fan and was an animal lover, especially of his Digger I |
8 | | and Digger II; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hamsher was preceded in death by his wife |
10 | | of 63 years, Thelma (nee Lay); and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hamsher is survived by his children, |
12 | | Deborah (Dale) Glen, Sr., Sharon (Alan) Breunig, and Kirk |
13 | | Hamsher; his grandchildren, Dale Glen, Jr., Kevin (Katy) Glen, |
14 | | Kory (Lisa) Glen, Joe and Lou Amodeo, Brandon (Meaghan) |
15 | | Breunig, Brittany (Kyle) Pettengell, Logan Ernster, and Hayden |
16 | | Hamsher; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Charlotte, Evan and |
17 | | Emily Glen, Ben, Will, and Hallie Breunig, and Ava, Bella, and |
18 | | David Pettengell; and by many dear friends, his excellent |
19 | | caregivers, and especially his dearest and loving caregiver, |
20 | | Jo; therefore, be it
