| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Adrian
Austin, a senior at | 4 | | Mt. Vernon Township High School, on earning top marks at the | 5 | | National Future Farmers of America (FFA)
Convention; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Few people have won second, third, and forth place | 7 | | in a national competition, and
even fewer people can say they | 8 | | are a national champion; Adrian Austin is one of these few; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Adrian Austin won first place in the nation in
| 10 | | reasons evaluation on all species of livestock during the 88th | 11 | | National FFA Convention held October
28 to 31, 2015; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Adrian Austin also took second place in beef | 13 | | evaluation, third in swine evaluation, and fourth
overall | 14 | | individual in competition; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Each state could send 4 contestants; Adrian Austin | 16 | | was one of 200 people nationwide
vying for these honors; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Adrian Austin was also a member of the MVTHS FFA | 18 | | livestock evaluation team, which
represented Illinois at the | 19 | | national convention and placed 11th and gold in the nation; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, According to FFA Advisor John Kabat, Adrian Austin | 2 | | is the first MVTHS student to
capture an individual national | 3 | | first place in a division in the FFA National Career | 4 | | Development
Activities; last spring, for the second straight | 5 | | year, she won the State championship in the
reasons divisions, | 6 | | while also picking up State championship honors in state | 7 | | extemporaneous
public speaking; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Reasons evaluations is much more complicated than | 9 | | just ranking a cow, hog, goat,
or sheep; Adrian Austin had to | 10 | | explain why she gave each animal its ranking; she has put in | 11 | | hours of
practice over the years; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Livestock judging is all in the family for the | 13 | | Austins; Adrian Austin's brother, Kane, took first
place twice | 14 | | and second place twice in the State in the event during his 4 | 15 | | years of high school;
Adrian can never really escape | 16 | | agriculture - even at home; the daughter of Steve and Holly
| 17 | | Austin raises show pigs and works with her parents and on | 18 | | chores at home when she is not busy
with MVTHS and the FFA; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Adrian Austin is the MVTHS FFA chapter president; | 20 | | she has not yet decided where she
will attend college next | 21 | | year, but she would eventually like to earn a bachelor's degree | 22 | | in agricultural
communications and work for a livestock | 23 | | magazine, preferably swine; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Judging develops different skill sets that will be | 2 | | helpful later in life; one has to
make a quick decision and | 3 | | give oral reasons for that decision, as well as learn to | 4 | | interact with
different types of people; the FFA helps develop | 5 | | these skill sets; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Adrian Austin is smart and focused; she loves | 7 | | animals and speaking about them; she is a
naturally driven | 8 | | person in that if she is going to do something she wants to do | 9 | | it well; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Adrian Austin serves as an example of a hard work, | 11 | | passion, and dedication; her
achievements have made not only | 12 | | the agriculture community but the entire State of Illinois
| 13 | | proud; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 15 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 16 | | congratulate Adrian
Austin on her success with the FFA and we | 17 | | wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it | 18 | | further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to Adrian Austin as an
expression of our | 21 | | congratulations and appreciation for a job well done.
