| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. James | 4 | | A. Waldorf; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was born in East Moline
to James "Roy" | 6 | | and Lois Waldorf; he served the Chicagoland area through many | 7 | | forms of community service; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was Dean and Assistant Principal at | 9 | | Proviso East High School from 1963 to 1978 and then Principal | 10 | | at Plainfield Central High School from 1978 to 1993; he served | 11 | | as Assistant Superintendent from 1993 to 1994 and as Principal | 12 | | at St. Mary
Immaculate Parish School from 1994 to 2006; he was | 13 | | the Mayor of Plainfield from 2005 to 2009; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was essential in keeping Plainfield | 15 | | Central High School's responsibilities to its
students after | 16 | | its building was destroyed in the tornado of 1990; he was | 17 | | responsible for
leading the high school community and the | 18 | | relocation of the student body to the former
Carmelite boys' | 19 | | high school in Joliet, which housed the students from | 20 | | Plainfield for several years
until their new high school could | 21 | | be constructed; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Soon after Plainfield Central High School was | 2 | | opened, Dr. Waldorf left public education and
was hired on as | 3 | | Principal of the newly rebuilt St. Mary Immaculate Parish | 4 | | School; in doing so, he played a major part in the construction | 5 | | of both Plainfield's private and public high school systems; | 6 | | and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was also heavily involved within the | 8 | | communities he taught; he was President
of the Plainfield | 9 | | Rotary, an avid member of the Knights of Columbus, and | 10 | | President of the Plainfield Food
Pantry; he served on the YMCA | 11 | | Board for 15 years and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of | 12 | | Plainfield; he was
also active within Mainstreet Plainfield; | 13 | | and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was a very warm individual known | 15 | | throughout the communities he served and will be
remembered for | 16 | | his consistent offering of a grand smile and heartfelt "Good | 17 | | Morning"; his
devotion to Plainfield's children, their | 18 | | families, and their education, as well as his various other | 19 | | services
to the community will always be remembered fondly; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf leaves behind his beloved wife of 27 | 21 | | years, Mary Ann, their children, Rhea
(James) Scheuing, Nicola | 22 | | Waldorf, Michael (Jennifer) LaMontagna, and Joseph (Jamie) | 23 | | LaMontagna, and their
grandchildren Dane, Brenna, Maura, Ava, |

| 1 | | and Franco; he was also the dear brother of Michael and
| 2 | | Christine and the fond uncle to numerous nieces and nephews; | 3 | | therefore, be it
| 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 5 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 6 | | mourn the passing of Dr. James A. Waldorf, and extend our | 7 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 8 | | and loved him; and be it further
| 9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 | | presented to the family of Dr. Waldorf as an expression of our | 11 | | deepest sympathy.
