| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois Endangered Species Act makes it | 3 | | unlawful for any
person to possess or transport any animal | 4 | | species which occurs on the Illinois
Endangered and Threatened | 5 | | Species List; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Under the Illinois Wildlife Code, it is illegal to | 7 | | possess, transport, or care for
sick, injured, or orphaned | 8 | | wildlife in Illinois unless you have a permit from the | 9 | | Department of Natural Resources; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Members of the public sometimes find sick, | 11 | | injured, or orphaned animals in the wild; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The public is not always aware of the laws | 13 | | prohibiting possession or
transport of protected animals; | 14 | | therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Department | 17 | | of Natural Resources to administer a public education
campaign | 18 | | that informs the public about the exact steps to take if a | 19 | | sick, injured, or
orphaned animal is encountered in the wild; | 20 | | and be it further |

| 1 | | RESOLVED, That we urge the Department of Natural Resources | 2 | | to increase
public education outreach in the months of March | 3 | | and April when infant animals are mistaken
as orphaned and | 4 | | should be left as they were found; and be it further | 5 | | RESOLVED, That we support the Department of Natural | 6 | | Resources entering into
public-private partnerships for the | 7 | | purpose of developing and sharing educational
materials such as | 8 | | posters, videos, programs, advertisements, and public service
| 9 | | announcements; and be it further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That we support public-private collaboration in | 11 | | the dissemination of said
educational materials to places such | 12 | | as schools, public and private newsletters, public
and private | 13 | | websites, and television and radio stations.
