| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Eleanor N. Goodman, who passed away on | 4 | | June 29, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman was born on August 9, 1920 in | 6 | | Hopkinsville, Kentucky; her parents were Leo Jay and Frieda | 7 | | Silberstein Newman; she married Marvin Leon Goodman on July 13, | 8 | | 1941 in Peoria; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman moved with her parents to Peoria | 10 | | when she was a young child; she was a graduate of Peoria High | 11 | | School and attended the University of Illinois; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman was a community leader who worked | 13 | | with several charities and non-profit organizations; she was | 14 | | president of the Kickapoo Council of the Girl Scouts and helped | 15 | | establish and build one of the region's first Girl Scout camps, | 16 | | Camp Tapawingo; she was active in B'nai Brith in Peoria and | 17 | | served on the auxiliaries of Peoria's hospitals; she and her | 18 | | husband also established a private family foundation from which | 19 | | they helped fund many activities behind the scenes, including | 20 | | the distribution of the polio vaccine to local children and | 21 | | college scholarships to students who could not otherwise afford | 22 | | to go to college; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman and her husband were strong | 2 | | supporters of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which was | 3 | | established by her daughter, Nancy Goodman Brinker, in honor of | 4 | | Mrs. Brinker's sister, who died of breast cancer in 1980; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman was preceded in death by her | 6 | | husband, Marvin; her parents; and a daughter, Susan G. Komen; | 7 | | and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman is survived by her daughter, Nancy | 9 | | G. Brinker; 3 grandchildren, Eric B. Brinker, Scott M. (Marnie) | 10 | | Komen, and Stephanie L. Komen; and 2 great-grandchildren, Susan | 11 | | Madeline and Abigail Brooke Komen; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her | 14 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Eleanor N. Goodman; | 15 | | and be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Eleanor Goodman as an expression of | 18 | | our sympathy.
