| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Patricia M. "Pat" Holden of Hoffman | 4 | | Estates, who passed away on June 29, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Pat Holden was born in Billings, Montana on | 6 | | October 6, 1957 to Martha and Edward Holden; she graduated from | 7 | | Billings High
School and went on to receive a bachelor's degree | 8 | | in political science and labor studies from
Oregon State | 9 | | University; she served as the very first
intern lobbyist at the | 10 | | Oregon State Legislature; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Pat Holden joined Bank of America
in 2001 and was | 12 | | a senior vice-president, serving in state and local government | 13 | | relations; she was responsible for the strategy to manage the | 14 | | bank's public policy area in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa,
Michigan, | 15 | | Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin; she worked with elected | 16 | | officials across the
Midwest and especially in her beloved City | 17 | | of Chicago; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Prior to joining Bank of America, Pat Holden was | 19 | | Vice-President of State Affairs for the American
Insurance | 20 | | Association (AIA), where she was the Midwest lobbyist for 9 | 21 | | years, based in
Chicago; in 1986, she became Philip Morris' | 22 | | Director of Government Affairs for the Midwest
before joining |

| 1 | | the AIA; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, Pat Holden was a 4-year member of the board of | 3 | | directors of the State
Government Affairs Council, a | 4 | | professional lobbyist organization whose members are corporate
| 5 | | governmental affairs staff with multi-state responsibilities; | 6 | | she was also President of the
Industry Advisory Council of the | 7 | | National Conference of Insurance Legislators after
serving | 8 | | several terms on the board of directors; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Pat Holden's civic and community activities were | 10 | | varied
throughout her career, including her election as a | 11 | | Commissioner of the Hoffman Estates Park
District and serving | 12 | | on numerous boards and commissions; she was instrumental in
| 13 | | engaging the bank with After School Matters, a non-profit | 14 | | organization founded in 1991 by
former Chicago First Lady | 15 | | Maggie Daley that offers Chicago high school teens innovative | 16 | | out-of-school opportunities to explore and develop their | 17 | | talents in the arts, communications,
science, sports, and | 18 | | technology, while gaining critical skills for work, college, | 19 | | and beyond; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Pat Holden was preceded in death by her parents; | 21 | | and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Pat Holden is survived by her husband of nearly 20

| 1 | | years, Charley Burhan; her 3 sisters; and her 7 nieces and | 2 | | nephews; therefore, be it
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 5 | | Patricia M. "Pat" Holden, and extend our sincere condolences to | 6 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 7 | | further
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 | | presented to the family of Pat Holden as an expression of our | 10 | | deepest sympathy.
