| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of former Springfield Mayor Oswald "Ossie" | 4 | | Langfelder, who passed away on October 21, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder was born in Vienna, Austria on | 6 | | August 2, 1926 to Ruth Marie and Otto B. Langfelder; he fled | 7 | | Austria in 1938 and arrived in the United States in 1940; he | 8 | | served in the Field Artillery in the South Pacific
during World | 9 | | War II and then in the occupation of Japan; he graduated from | 10 | | Springfield Junior
College and studied engineering at Purdue | 11 | | University; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder was employed by the
Department of | 13 | | Transportation for 4 years, Willet Consulting Engineers for 2 | 14 | | years, and Crawford, Murphy
and Tilly for 22 years before | 15 | | entering politics; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder was elected as the Springfield | 17 | | Commissioner of Streets for 8 years
and then as Mayor of | 18 | | Springfield for 8 years; he then returned for the next
12 years | 19 | | to the Department of Transportation, retiring in 2008 at the | 20 | | age of 82; and

book, "My |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder is survived by his wife, Mary | 3 | | "Midge" Dunham, and their 13 children, Joan (Steve)
Baker, | 4 | | Jamie (James) Cour, John (Nancy), Joseph (Gale), Judith | 5 | | (Dennis) Shackelford, James (Billie),
Jacqueline (Allan) Yoho, | 6 | | Jay Paul (Amy), Janice (Larry) Davis, Jean (Larry)
Rockford, | 7 | | Joshua (Angie), Jacob (John), and Julia (Dustin) Frevert; his | 8 | | sister, Edith; his 31 grandchildren; and his 5 | 9 | | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | former Springfield Mayor Oswald "Ossie" Langfelder, and extend | 13 | | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who | 14 | | knew and loved him; and be it further
