| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Louis "Merritt" Goddard, Jr. of Moline, | 4 | | who passed away on March 6, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. was born on February 4, 1923 in | 6 | | Moline; his parents were Louis Merritt and Madeline Lynch | 7 | | Goddard, Sr.; he married Georgia Ann Slater on September 19, | 8 | | 1942 at Memorial Christian Church in Rock Island; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. served in the United States | 10 | | Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945 in the South | 11 | | Pacific; he then served in the United States Naval Reserve from | 12 | | 1945 until 1951; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. graduated from Rock Island High | 14 | | School; on January 28, 1946, he began his pattern maker | 15 | | apprenticeship at John Deere Plow Works; after becoming a | 16 | | journeyman, he worked as a salaried employee before returning | 17 | | to the Quad-Cities to work for the John Deere Planter Works in | 18 | | 1964; he worked as an advanced engineering analyst for John | 19 | | Deere Harvester in Moline for 38 years until his retirement on | 20 | | February 28, 1982; after his retirement, he and his wife spent | 21 | | their time traveling and fishing; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. was a member of the Pattern | 2 | | Makers League of North America, the American Foundry Society, | 3 | | and the Plus 60 Club; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. enjoyed woodworking, fishing, | 5 | | playing cards, working puzzles, and spending time with his | 6 | | daughters and his grandchildren; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. was preceded in death by his | 8 | | parents; his wife, Georgia Ann; his brother; and his sister; | 9 | | and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. is survived by his daughters, | 11 | | Patty Stinson, Rebecca (Russ) Carlyle, and Jane (Glenn) | 12 | | Piliponis; his nine grandchildren; his 17 great-grandchildren; | 13 | | his ten great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Raymond; | 14 | | therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | 17 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Louis "Merritt" | 18 | | Goddard, Jr.; and be it further
