| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. | 4 | | George Bark, who passed away on July 24, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bark was born in Harvey to Ralph and Irene | 6 | | Barker on August 17, 1959; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bark had a lifelong passion for learning and | 8 | | spent his academic career at the University of Illinois, first | 9 | | earning his bachelor's degree in biology in 1981 and then a | 10 | | master's degree in 1983; in 1993, he earned a Ph.D. in | 11 | | nutritional sciences, and in 1994, his medical degree, both | 12 | | also from the University of Illinois; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bark went on to complete his Family Practice | 14 | | Rural Residency Program at Union Hospital in Terre Haute and | 15 | | became board certified in 1997; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bark settled into family practice as a rural | 17 | | doctor in Paxton, working with Christie Clinic, the Provena | 18 | | Covenant Family Care Network, and eventually the Gibson Area | 19 | | Hospital whose staff considered him part of their family; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, In 2003, Dr. Bark returned to the University of |

| 1 | | Illinois as a professor in their College of Medicine; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bark was a huge supporter of his alma mater | 3 | | and was a season ticket holder to football and basketball; he | 4 | | was also Gibson Hospital's representative on the Fighting | 5 | | Illini Golf team; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr Bark was selected to receive the 2017 Rural | 7 | | Physician of Excellence Award posthumously from the Illinois | 8 | | Rural Health Association; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bark made a huge impact on improving the | 10 | | healthcare environment through the many patients whose lives he | 11 | | touched as well as the medical students he inspired by his vast | 12 | | knowledge; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 14 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 15 | | mourn the passing of Dr. George Bark, and extend our sincere | 16 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 17 | | him; and be it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Dr. Bark as an expression of our | 20 | | deepest sympathy.
