| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Sybil Mervis on receiving | 4 | | the Illiana Genealogical & Historical Society Foundation's | 5 | | annual historical preservation award; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The Foundation annually recognizes a deserving | 7 | | individual who has made significant contributions to preserve | 8 | | local history; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Sybil Mervis moved to Danville 60 years ago when | 10 | | she married Louis Mervis and has been an integral community | 11 | | volunteer and leader for the last six decades; this recognition | 12 | | highlights her steadfast commitment and outstanding | 13 | | accomplishments regarding historical preservation on the local | 14 | | and family level; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, An author, writer, and memoirist, Sybil Mervis has | 16 | | published several books, articles, and pamphlets on local and | 17 | | family history; her latest book, In the Middle, details her | 18 | | youth growing up in Bloomington; she also penned A Great | 19 | | Depression Courtship, about the early lives and courtship of | 20 | | her parents; she painstakingly researched the histories of the | 21 | | Jewish communities of Danville and Attica, Indiana, which were | 22 | | published in various media, including The Heritage magazine of |

| 1 | | the Vermilion County Museum Society, booklets, and a chapter of | 2 | | History of Fountain County, Indiana; researching the history of | 3 | | her family farm's property near Potomac, she wrote What the | 4 | | River Hid, the story of the Meneley Mill on the Middlefork | 5 | | River; she has written multiple pamphlets on family history, as | 6 | | well as a biography of her late mother-in-law, the Life of | 7 | | Martha Mervis; she researched the history of the Danville | 8 | | Public Library, which was published in articles in The | 9 | | Heritage; she also co-wrote two local civic booklets, Know Your | 10 | | City and Danville Digest of Local Government; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Sybil Mervis is recognized for her contributions | 12 | | in the area of historical preservation, which have been | 13 | | integrated with her decades-long involvement as a tireless | 14 | | advocate for the Danville Public Library, the Vermilion County | 15 | | Museum, and local education; she has devoted many hours of | 16 | | volunteer time and generously supported these areas over the | 17 | | years; therefore, be it
