SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Frank J. Soliz of Colona, who passed away
4on December 23, 2016 at the age of 89; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Frank Soliz was born in a boxcar in Silvis to
6Augustine and Tomasa Lopez Soliz on August 21, 1927; he served
7in the United States Navy during World War II and married
8Josephine Terronez in Moline on July 24, 1950; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Frank Soliz worked for the Rock Island Lines and
10later retired in the mid-1980s from the former International
11Harvester Works in East Moline; he began working for the Colona
12Fire Department in 1969, achieving the rank of Assistant Chief,
13and was a trustee when he retired in 2014; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Frank Soliz was an active member at St. Patrick's
15Church and was fondly referred to as the door greeter; he was
16pivotal in the development and completion of the Hero Street
17Monument and had served as a trustee; he and his wife helped to
18bring Teens Encounter Christ and Cursillo to the Quad-Cities;
19he served on the Colona School Board, had been a court
20translator for Henry County, and was past commander of the VFW
218890 in East Moline; he was recognized as the 1992 Colona
22Citizen of the Year; and

1    WHEREAS, Frank Soliz was preceded in death by his wife, his
2parents, and his siblings, Mary McLaughlin, Margarito Soliz,
3Tanilo Soliz, and Paul Soliz; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Frank Soliz is survived by his children, Marc
5(Alohna) Soliz, Stephanie (Robert) Dowdal, Theodore Soliz,
6Joey Soliz, Kevin Soliz, Sara (Charles) Cervantes, and Stella
7(Daniel) Holmes; his grandchildren, Kathleen, Charles "CJ",
8Janell, Jaclyn, Sarah, Kelin, Nicole, David, Andrew, Brianna,
9Kelsy, Adam, Zackary, and Claire; his great-grandchildren,
10Celia, Jillian, Jacob, Ava, Isabella, Charles III, Benjamin,
11Carmendi, Santana, and one on the way; and his siblings,
12Guadalupe "Sonny" Soliz, Anthony Soliz, Thomas Soliz, Edmond
13Soliz, Margaret Guajardo, Teresa Soliz, and Isabel Soliz;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
17family and friends, mourn the passing of Frank J. Soliz, and
18extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
19who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Frank Soliz as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
