| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Charles Goering, who passed away on | 4 | | December 12, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Charles Goering was born in Columbus, Ohio on July | 6 | | 10, 1958 and learned to play the piano by the age of six; in his | 7 | | teenage years he formed numerous bands, including the Red | 8 | | Rooster Band, Red House, and Barrelhouse Chuck & the Blue | 9 | | Lights; he followed Muddy Waters around the south trying to | 10 | | pick up tips; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Charles Goering was an electric blues pianist, a | 12 | | keyboardist, a singer, and a songwriter; his work appeared on | 13 | | 14 albums and he is said to have been the only Chicago area | 14 | | blues pianist to have studied under Sunnyland Slim, Pinetop | 15 | | Perkins, Blind John Davis, Detroit Junior, and Little Brother | 16 | | Montgomery; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Charles Goering was affectionately known as | 18 | | "Barrelhouse Chuck"; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Charles Goering is survived by his wife, Betsy | 20 | | Goering; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 3 | | Charles Goering, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 4 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 5 | | further
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 | | presented to the family of Charles Goering as an expression of | 8 | | our deepest sympathy.
