| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Eugene B. Shaffer of Waukegan, who passed | 4 | | away on February 13, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Eugene Shaffer was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to | 6 | | Herman and Catherine Shaffer on November 18, 1933; he joined | 7 | | the United States Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in | 8 | | 1957; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Eugene Shaffer worked as a maintenance mechanic | 10 | | for various companies; for a short time, he was part-owner of a | 11 | | tavern called "Dave and Gene's" located in North Chicago; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Eugene Shaffer was a member of the American Legion | 13 | | for many years; he enjoyed watching auto racing, hunting, | 14 | | fishing, and trap shooting; he also enjoyed watching "Jeopardy" | 15 | | with his friends at the local bar; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Eugene Shaffer was preceded in death by his wife, | 17 | | Karin; his parents; his sisters, Betty and Judy; and his | 18 | | brothers, Joseph and Robert; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Eugene Shaffer is survived by his brothers, Don | 20 | | and Jim; his sister, Lola; his children, Linda, Peggy, Jean |

| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 5 | | Eugene B. Shaffer, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 6 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 7 | | further
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 | | presented to the family of Eugene Shaffer as an expression of | 10 | | our deepest sympathy.
