SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Reverend Paul D. Bandit of Moline, who
4passed away on April 25, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Bendit was born in Chicago to Paul Sr. and
6Claudia Thoma Bendit on November 29, 1926; he attended music
7school in Chicago and graduated with a Master of Divinity from
8the Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis on June 14, 1954; he
9was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served in
10The Philippines; he married Ruth Sponsel in Hamilton, Ohio on
11September 26, 1954 and later married Ivola "Ivy" E. James
12Talbert in Moline on September 21, 2009; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Rev. Bendit served at United Church of Christ
14churches in Wells and Lester Prairie, Minnesota; Monticello,
15Iowa; Tiffin, Ohio; Lebanon, Indiana; Hartington, Nebraska;
16and Savannah; in Moline, he served as pastor and Sunday school
17teacher for United Church of Christ, and was a member of First
18United Presbyterian Church; and; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rev. Bendit enjoyed both indoor and outdoor
20gardening, square dancing, traveling, and listening to
21classical music; he enjoyed reading his theology book
22collection and liked fixing just about anything with his tools;

1he loved music, theater, good food, and the occasional glass of
2red wine; he enjoyed playing cards, Scrabble, and had a big
3sweet tooth; he will be remembered and missed as a loving
4husband, father, leader, protector, and most memorably, as a
5role model; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rev. Bendit was preceded in death by his parents;
7his first wife, Ruth; and his sister, Lynette Bendit; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Rev. Bendit is survived by his wife, Ivy; his
9sons, Mark A. (Becky L.) Bendit, and Stephen J. Bendit; his
10sisters, Katherine Hein, and Claudette (Howard) Ponder;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Reverend Paul D. Bandit, and extend our sincere condolences to
15his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Rev. Bendit as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
