| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Joseph Metzger of Johnsburg, who passed | 4 | | away on April 24, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Metzger was born in Pomaz, Hungary to | 6 | | Stefan Metzger and Rosa Weiszhar on January 24, 1928; his bride | 7 | | to be, Elizabeth Harrer, immigrated to the United States from | 8 | | Germany in 1950 and Joseph did so the following year; he | 9 | | married Elizabeth at St. Mary Catholic Church in McHenry on | 10 | | January 26, 1952; he rebuilt a summer cottage in Johnsburg into | 11 | | their home, in which they resided for almost 60 years; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Metzger first worked as a bricklayer and | 13 | | plasterer for Ted Pitzen for many years; he was later employed | 14 | | by Great Lakes Naval Base as a plasterer until his retirement; | 15 | | and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Metzger was a Sunnyside Village Trustee and | 17 | | was active at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg; he had | 18 | | many hobbies as a younger man, including stamp collecting, | 19 | | calligraphy, leather work, cartooning, and woodworking; in his | 20 | | later years, his greatest interest and joy came from genealogy | 21 | | and his family; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Metzger was preceded in death by his wife, | 2 | | Elizabeth, and his brother-in-law, Lorenz Bayer; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Metzger is survived by his children, John | 4 | | (Candace) Metzger, Paul (Donna) Metzger, and Maria (Roger) | 5 | | Zawacki; his grandchildren, Emily and Erich Zawacki, Matthew | 6 | | and Margaret Metzger, and Mallory (Matthew) Boyd; and his | 7 | | sister, Theresia Bayer and her extended family; therefore, be | 8 | | it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Joseph Metzger, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 13 | | further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Joseph Metzger as an expression of | 16 | | our deepest sympathy.
