| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Harry Culbertson Armstrong of Glen | 4 | | Carbon, who passed away on June 29, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong was born in Delavan to Benjamin | 6 | | Pearl and Marie Armstrong (Meeker) on January 19, 1932; he | 7 | | graduated from Delavan High School in 1949 and earned his | 8 | | Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Law at the University of | 9 | | Illinois in 1953; he earned his Juris Doctorate from the | 10 | | University of Illinois School of Law in 1955 and was admitted | 11 | | to the Illinois Bar that same year; he married Marylyn Allgood | 12 | | on October 4, 1956 and served as a J.A.G. officer in the United | 13 | | States Air Force in Korea in the late 1950s; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong settled in Edwardsville, where he | 15 | | entered into the practice of law with James L. Reed; he became | 16 | | a partner of Reed, Armstrong and Gorman for the rest of his 55 | 17 | | year career, retiring in 2011; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong likely set the record for the most | 19 | | jury trials tried to verdict in the State of Illinois; he and | 20 | | his long-time partner and friend, the late James E. Gorman, set | 21 | | the record for the most jury trials tried to verdict in the | 22 | | State of Illinois by two members of the same firm; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong was a member of the American Bar | 2 | | Association and the Illinois State Bar Association; he was a | 3 | | former President of the Madison County Bar Association and a | 4 | | Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong's passions included his family, | 6 | | the law, his dogs, and traveling; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong was preceded in death by his | 8 | | parents; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong is survived by his wife of 60 | 10 | | years, Marylyn; his sister, Marilyn Hart (Bob); his children, | 11 | | Tad Armstrong (Mel), Pam Stullken (Bill), and Amy Ducharme | 12 | | (Derek); his grandchildren, Ben Armstrong, Beth White, Ian | 13 | | Thomas, Meghan Grimmer, Megan Madrid, Hans Stullken, Wolfgang | 14 | | Stullken, Ashlee Ducharme, and Harry Ducharme; and his | 15 | | great-grandchildren, Gabby White, Maddy White, Emerson Thomas, | 16 | | Gracie Grimmer, Dean Grimmer, Willem Madrid, Sebastian Madrid, | 17 | | Bella Stullken, and Violet Stullken; therefore, be it
