| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Donald Engel of Hampshire, who passed | 4 | | away on October 9, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Donald Engel was born on the family farm in Genoa | 6 | | Township to Herman and Anna (Herrmann) Engel on April 1, 1923; | 7 | | he was the last surviving member of the Hampshire High School | 8 | | Class of 1941; he married Lucille M. Yurs at the St. Charles | 9 | | Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire on August 21, 1946; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Donald Engel was a lifelong farmer in Hampshire | 11 | | and a longtime 4-H leader and farm bureau member; he served as | 12 | | a Kane County Fair Board member and as superintendent of the | 13 | | swine department for the fair for over 25 years; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Donald Engel was a member of the St. Charles | 15 | | Borromeo Catholic Church, where he served as a past board | 16 | | member and usher; he was also a member of the Catholic Order of | 17 | | Foresters for over 80 years; he enjoyed traveling, playing | 18 | | cards, games, and bingo; he was was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan; | 19 | | he loved celebrating life and family; his pride and joy was his | 20 | | family and he was always supportive of his families' | 21 | | activities; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Donald Engel was preceded in death by his parents; | 2 | | his stepfather, Frank; his wife, Lucille; his brothers, Harold, | 3 | | Ronald, and Robert; his granddaughter, Nicole Stading; his | 4 | | great-grandson, Edward Engel; and his great-granddaughter, | 5 | | Alexandra Mathey; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Donald Engel is survived by his children, Richard | 7 | | (Bonnie), Diane (Richard) Stading, Sharon Danos (Ken Orr), Dave | 8 | | (Deb), Mary (Paul) Zuzga, and Margie (Larry) Gendron; his | 9 | | loving companion, Carroll VonBergen; 12 grandchildren; 17 | 10 | | great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley (Vernon) Drendel; and | 11 | | his brother, Frank (Carol); therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 14 | | Donald Engel, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | 15 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
