| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Robert Scott Zeiders M.D. of Savoy, who | 4 | | passed away on November 24, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders was born in Canton, Ohio to Dr. Glenn | 6 | | Wilson and Teresa Scott Zeiders on April 5, 1940; he married | 7 | | Beth Rae Bandy in Champaign on April 13, 1985; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders graduated from Williams College; he | 9 | | received his medical degree from the University of Rochester | 10 | | School of Medicine and Dentistry and completed a four-year | 11 | | internship/residency in internal medicine at Northwestern | 12 | | University; he completed a two-year fellowship at the Scripps | 13 | | Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, California; he | 14 | | served two years on active duty in the United States Air Force | 15 | | as a captain in the medical corps; he was Chief of Internal | 16 | | Medicine, Chief of Professional Services, and Acting Hospital | 17 | | Commander, 328th USAF Hospital, Richards-Gebaur AFB, Kansas | 18 | | City, Missouri; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders joined Carle in 1973 and enjoyed a | 20 | | 30-year career as a rheumatologist and head of the department; | 21 | | he also served as the chief of medicine; after retirement, he | 22 | | spent four years as the editor of the medical journal, Carle |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Carle Foundation Hospital awarded Dr. Zeiders the | 3 | | "most outstanding contribution in medical education" award in | 4 | | 1986, followed by the Legacy Award in 2005 for providing | 5 | | exceptional care and compassion for patients, as well as | 6 | | playing a role in the growth and development of the institution | 7 | | for future patients and physicians; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders served as clinical assistant | 9 | | professor of medicine and head of the section of rheumatology | 10 | | at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; he was | 11 | | presented the Golden Apple for excellence in teaching by the | 12 | | Class of 1987; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, The research and publications by Dr. Zeiders | 14 | | helped make methotrexate a mainstay of rheumatic disease | 15 | | treatment and he lectured throughout the United States and | 16 | | Europe; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders was a member of numerous professional | 18 | | societies, including the Champaign County Medical Society and | 19 | | the American College of Rheumatology; he was a founding fellow | 20 | | of the American Rheumatism Association; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders enjoyed sharing time with his family |

| 1 | | and friends, spinning stories, genealogy, gardening, | 2 | | traveling, mentoring young adults, cooking, and boating; after | 3 | | retirement, he volunteered as an educator and ombudsman for | 4 | | bewildered or overwhelmed patients and their families; he was | 5 | | humble and very kind to everyone he met; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders is survived by his wife, Beth; his | 7 | | children and their families, Bethany and Mitch Lieberman and | 8 | | their three children, Andrew, Noah, and Emma, David and | 9 | | Kathleen Zeiders and their sons, Josh Methven (Kara | 10 | | Hendershot), Jeremiah Methven (Betsy Methven-Dorner) and their | 11 | | son, James, and Jack, and Amy Zeiders and her twins, Taylor and | 12 | | Tyler; and his brother, Glenn (Mary) Zeiders; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 15 | | Robert Scott Zeiders M.D., and extend our sincere condolences | 16 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 17 | | it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Dr. Zeiders as an expression of our | 20 | | deepest sympathy.
