2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Jim Edward Gager of Moline, who passed |
4 | | away on November 24, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Gager was born in Moline to Edgar Clarence and |
6 | | Mary Viola Swim Gager on May 2, 1940; he graduated from United |
7 | | Township High School in 1958; he married Helen M. Pearson at |
8 | | Bethany Baptist Church in Moline on September 5, 1964; he |
9 | | received his bachelor's degree from Western Illinois |
10 | | University in 1967, his master's degree in 1978, and his |
11 | | Education Specialist Degree from Western Illinois University |
12 | | in 1981; he served active duty in the United States Navy |
13 | | Reserves as a GMG 2 on the USS Floyd B. Parks (DD884) in |
14 | | Vietnam in 1968; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Jim Gager started his career teaching science at |
16 | | Wilson Junior High in 1969; he transferred to Moline High |
17 | | School in 1973 and taught Biology I and II and chemistry until |
18 | | he retired in 1999; he also taught in the Community Outreach |
19 | | Retention and Engagement program at Moline High School; he |
20 | | coached girls' basketball, boys' tennis, and videotaped |
21 | | varsity football and basketball games; he received the |
22 | | Dispatch-Argus Master Teacher Award in 1999; he was known as a |
23 | | creative, enthusiastic, motivational, and inspirational |

1 | | teacher; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, After his retirement, Jim Gager worked part time |
3 | | as a travel agent and specialized in Hawaiian vacations; he was |
4 | | also the volunteer coordinator for the Quad City Symphony |
5 | | Orchestra and a Second Fiddle Sale Director; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Jim Gager served as a youth sponsor, Bible |
7 | | teacher, vice chairman, deacon, trustee, and choir member at |
8 | | Bethany Baptist; he and Helen enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, |
9 | | often with friends or family; he also enjoyed woodworking; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Jim Gager was preceded in death by his parents; |
11 | | his sister, Janet Gloria; his brother, Larry Gager; and his |
12 | | nieces, Linda Reeder and Kathy Atkinson; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Jim Gager is survived by his wife, Helen; his |
14 | | sister-in-law, Virginia Gager; his brother-in-law, Arnulfo |
15 | | Gloria; his nieces, Vicki (James) Bongovanni and Michelle |
16 | | Gager; his nephews, Daniel (Mony) Johnson and Michael Gager; |
17 | | and his many great-nieces and nephews; he will also be missed |
18 | | by Frank and Virginia Ryner, their three daughters, Judy (Jeff) |
19 | | Donohue, Caryn (Bryant) Swanson, and Sandy (Kevin) Jones, and |
20 | | their children; therefore, be it
