| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of George Putnam Schermerhorn of Moline, who | 4 | | passed away on November 27, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was born on his family's farm | 6 | | in Chatfield, Minnesota to Freeman and Eva Williams | 7 | | Schermerhorn on September 11, 1923; he served in the U.S. Army | 8 | | in France during World War II and married Alice Shafer in East | 9 | | Moline on July 18, 1947; after her passing, he married Carol | 10 | | Kennedy Forsyth in Cancun, Mexico on April 17, 1984; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was the owner of George P. | 12 | | Schermerhorn Insurance, a State Farm agency, for over 30 years, | 13 | | retiring in 1985; he previously worked for the East Moline Post | 14 | | Office and Prudential Insurance; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was a member of Good Shepherd | 16 | | Presbyterian Church in Rock Island; Doric Lodge No. 319, AF & | 17 | | AM, Moline; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline; Kaaba | 18 | | Shrine Temple; and Moline American Legion Post No. 246; he was | 19 | | an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed golfing, | 20 | | traveling, and wintering in Arizona; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was preceded in death by his |

| 1 | | first wife, Alice; his second wife, Carol; his daughter, Mary | 2 | | Melissa Howe; and his siblings, Glenn Schermerhorn, Helen | 3 | | Lundquist, Dorothy Ferrier, and Steven Schermerhorn; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn is survived by his sister, | 5 | | Mary Carson; many nieces and nephews and their families; his | 6 | | stepdaughters, Kathleen (Jack) Reimers and Jeannine Forsyth | 7 | | and their families; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 10 | | George Putnam Schermerhorn, and extend our sincere condolences | 11 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 12 | | it further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the family of George Schermerhorn as an expression | 15 | | of our deepest sympathy.
