2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Charles Robert Goodwin of Zion, who |
4 | | passed away on December 18, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin was born in Zion to Howard Charles |
6 | | Goodwin and Frances Catherine (Grom) Goodwin on April 29, 1931; |
7 | | he graduated from Warren High School and played |
8 | | semi-professional football with the Lake County Rifles and the |
9 | | Racine Raiders; he served honorably with the United States |
10 | | Army; he married Mary Catherine Casterton on June 20, 1953; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin was a lifelong farmer; he began |
12 | | his farming career on the Casterton/Goodwin Family Farm, where |
13 | | he worked until 1992; he then worked with Richards Farms until |
14 | | October 2017; he founded Goodwin Racing in 1967, which began a |
15 | | legacy that he shared with his sons, Greg and Jeff, and |
16 | | eventually his grandson, Garrett; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin was a lifelong member of the North |
18 | | Prairie United Methodist Church; he served on the Board of |
19 | | Directors of the Newport Township Fire Department for more than |
20 | | 20 years; he was humble and influenced many people; he enjoyed |
21 | | snowmobiling, racing, long road trips in the country, and all |
22 | | things John Deere; most importantly, he dearly loved his family |
