| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of David B. "Dave" Lawrence of Savoy, who | 4 | | passed away on January 1, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dave Lawrence was born in Manhattan, Kansas to | 6 | | Donald S. and Anna Louise (Shellenbaum) Lawrence on July 17, | 7 | | 1937; his family moved to Topeka, Kansas, where he attended | 8 | | Central Park Grade School, Crane Junior High, and Topeka High | 9 | | School; he later attended Kansas State University; he married | 10 | | Rhea A. Lake in Lawrence, Kansas on October 19, 1957; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, In 1968, Dave Lawrence settled into the | 12 | | Champaign-Urbana community as the founding Executive Director | 13 | | of The Boys Club of C-U, later named The Don Moyer Boys & Girls | 14 | | Club of Champaign County; in the ten years to follow, he joined | 15 | | the Champaign Rotary Club, became a member and President of the | 16 | | Right to Read Council of Champaign County, a board member of | 17 | | Reading is Fundamental, a member of the Unit 4 Alternative | 18 | | Education planning group, and was the Fourth of July | 19 | | Celebration Parade Chair; he was also the only private sector | 20 | | agency representative appointed to the State of Illinois | 21 | | Delinquency Prevention Advisory Board; he was the recipient of | 22 | | the Champaign-Urbana Jaycees Outstanding Young Man Award; | 23 | | during this time, he was also an active member of St. Matthew |

| 1 | | Catholic Church; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, For the next ten years, Dave Lawrence worked as | 3 | | the Executive Director for the United Way of Champaign County; | 4 | | he was an Advisory Board member for the University of Illinois | 5 | | Volunteer Illini Projects, and Chair of the Champaign County | 6 | | Funders Council; he served as President of the Champaign Rotary | 7 | | Club, became a board member of the Champaign County Crime | 8 | | Stoppers, and later served on the Crime Stoppers State Board; | 9 | | and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Dave Lawrence then returned to the Don Moyer Boys & | 11 | | Girls Club, where he served as a board member and as | 12 | | president for one term; he was president of the Illinois Area | 13 | | Council of Boys & girls Clubs and was the recipient of the Don | 14 | | Moyer Boys & Girls Club Silver Medallion; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Dave Lawrence was a board member and served as | 16 | | president of the Champaign County CASA; he was also a member | 17 | | and President of the Champaign County Salvation Army Board of | 18 | | Directors; he served two terms as a trustee for Savoy and was | 19 | | currently the chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals for that | 20 | | community; he was named "Savoy Citizen of the Year" by the | 21 | | Savoy Rotary Club; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Dave Lawrence served two terms as the Mid-State |

| 1 | | Representative appointed to the State of Illinois Commission on | 2 | | Volunteerism and Community Service, Executive Director of the | 3 | | Champaign County Farm Bureau Foundation, and board member and | 4 | | Vice President of St. Joseph Sportsman's Club; he received the | 5 | | Award of Appreciation from the Illinois State Crime Stoppers | 6 | | Association for exceptional service to the Illinois State Crime | 7 | | Stoppers and the local Crime Stoppers Programs of Illinois for | 8 | | his dedicated efforts with House Bill 0598; he received a | 9 | | Special Commendation from Serve Illinois Commission on | 10 | | Volunteerism and Community Service for his years of dedicated | 11 | | leadership and service; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Dave Lawrence was a Champaign County Rotary Paul | 13 | | Harris Fellow, an Art Skelton Fellow, and received the Avenues | 14 | | of Service Award from Rotary International; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Dave Lawrence spent two years as the National | 16 | | Executive Director of the LeaderShape Institute and then | 17 | | jointed the team of WCIA-TV, where he remained until his | 18 | | retirement; after retirement, he worked at WILL-TV and obtained | 19 | | sponsorships; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Dave Lawrence supported and rooted for the Illini | 21 | | and created, produced, and hosted a radio show on WDWS, "The | 22 | | Other Illini"; he was also currently serving on the Illini | 23 | | Networkers Board for women's volleyball; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dave Lawrence was an avid fan of the St. Louis | 2 | | Cardinals and the Chicago Blackhawks; he enjoyed golfing, | 3 | | fishing, and pheasant and quail hunting; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Dave Lawrence was preceded in death by his older | 5 | | brother, Gary (Peggy); and his younger sister, Patricia; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dave Lawrence is survived by his wife, Rhea; his | 7 | | children, David O. Lawrence, Cherise (David) Lewis, Susan | 8 | | (Charles) Penny, and Dena Lawrence; and his grandchildren, | 9 | | Theresa Lawrence, Reid (Etienne) Penny, and Blake (Jeicel) | 10 | | Penny; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | David B. "Dave" Lawrence and extend our sincere condolences to | 14 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 15 | | further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Dave Lawrence as an expression of | 18 | | our deepest sympathy.
