| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Donald James Bernardi, who passed away on | 4 | | April 5, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi was born in Spring Valley to | 6 | | Donald and Mary (Ferraro) Bernardi on February 13, 1923; he | 7 | | served in the United States Navy for 13 years; he served as a | 8 | | gunnery officer, Loran officer, deck division officer, and | 9 | | landing craft officer aboard the USS Dorthea L. Dix during | 10 | | World War II; he was awarded the Victory Ribbon of World War | 11 | | II, the American Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation | 12 | | Ribbon, and the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon; he married Celia | 13 | | Gualandri at St. Benedict Church in Ladd on May 13, 1950; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi admired his father and worked | 15 | | closely with him in the gas station his father owned in Ladd; | 16 | | and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi enjoyed traveling, especially to | 18 | | Hawaii, photography, fishing, bird watching, and cooking; he | 19 | | was known to be a handyman and especially enjoyed working on | 20 | | his cars; he adored his family and loved spending time with | 21 | | them and will be remembered as a funny, kind, patient, and | 22 | | grateful man; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi was preceded in death by his | 2 | | parents; his brother, Bernard Bernardi; and his sister, Frances | 3 | | Victor; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi is survived by his wife, Celia; | 5 | | his children, Donald (Joan) Bernardi, David (Suzy) Bernardi, | 6 | | Barbara (Richard) Alton, and Linda (Greg) Mable; his siblings, | 7 | | Joseph Bernardi and Marie Giordano; his grandchildren, Leah, | 8 | | Caroline, Daniel, Anthony, Francis, Joseph, and Angela; and | 9 | | many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Donald James Bernardi, and extend our sincere condolences to | 13 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 14 | | further
