| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Pete Bernot of Benld, who passed away on | 4 | | April 21, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Pete Bernot was born in Chicago to Peter "Fish" | 6 | | Yanites and Mary Bernot on December 1, 1934; he was raised by | 7 | | his grandmother, Mary Mitchell, and she taught him to speak | 8 | | Lithuanian; he married Wanda Huffman on February 20, 1965; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Pete Bernot retired from Shell Oil company in Wood | 10 | | River after 20 years of service; throughout his time at Shell, | 11 | | he only missed one day of work; prior to his employment at | 12 | | Shell, he was a member of the Labor International Union of | 13 | | North America (LIUNA) Local #338 in Wood River, where he worked | 14 | | on the construction of Interstate 55 and Southern Illinois | 15 | | University Edwardsville; he also owned a bar on Central Avenue | 16 | | in Benld; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Pete Bernot was awarded a 50-Year Membership Card | 18 | | from LIUNA in 2013; he was an avid quail hunter, gardener, and | 19 | | fisherman; he enjoyed attending boys high school basketball | 20 | | games and attended the IHSA state tournament for 30 consecutive | 21 | | years; he traveled all over southern Illinois to watch | 22 | | competitive basketball; his grandchildren brought him the most |

| 1 | | joy, and he loved supporting Rylee at his baseball games and | 2 | | Peyton when he campaigned for a local office; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Pete Bernot was preceded in death by his parents; | 4 | | and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Pete Bernot is survived by his wife, Wanda; his | 6 | | son, Jeffrey A. Bernot; his grandsons, Rylee A. and Peyton M. | 7 | | Bernot; his granddaughter, Ashleigh N. Feldmann; and his | 8 | | great-grandchildren, Elexia, Jace, Emrigh, and Jax; therefore, | 9 | | be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Pete Bernot and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | 13 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Pete Bernot as an expression of our | 16 | | deepest sympathy.
