SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of David James "Dave" Cox of Moline, who
4passed away on May 4, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dave Cox was born in Moline to David and Verna Cox
6on October 27, 1923; he graduated from Moline High School in
71941; he was a World War II veteran and proudly served in the
8United States Army Air Corp as a Propeller Specialist on the
9B-24 bombers; upon his return, he married Gloria Logan on
10October 26, 1947; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Following the war, Dave Cox spent three years as a
12catcher in the minor leagues; after ending his baseball career,
13he took part in establishing the Moline American Legion Post
14246 baseball team and coached there for 20 years, as well as at
15other leagues throughout his career; while coaching, he became
16a territory scout for the Detroit Tigers and the St. Louis
17Cardinals and participated in signing several of his players to
18major league contracts; he also owned and operated Dave Cox
19General Contractor and built furniture, homes, and additions
20throughout the Quad-Cities; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dave Cox was a dedicated member of The Reorganized
22Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served 50 years

1in the priesthood bearing testimonies; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dave Cox was preceded in death by his parents; his
3wife, Gloria; his sister; and his infant son, David Cox Jr.;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dave Cox is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth
6"Libby" Young, Mary (Greg) Beard, Julie (Dennis) Vandeputte,
7and Amy (Kevin) Soeken; his grandchildren, Cori, Laurie,
8Christian, Erica, Megan, Dane, Sean, Lara, Niccole, Sarah,
9Taylor, and Makenzie; and his 16 great-grandchildren;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13David James "Dave" Cox and extend our sincere condolences to
14his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Dave Cox as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
