| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Julia "Becky" Lewis Smith, who passed | 4 | | away on May 7, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Julia Smith was born to Carl Hamilton Lewis and | 6 | | Mary Katherine Goff on December 5, 1939, the oldest of five | 7 | | children; she attended Holy Angels Catholic School and Church | 8 | | and then attended Saint Elizabeth Catholic High School; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Julia Smith worked at the Louise Burg Hospital, | 10 | | Michael Reese, and Mercy Hospitals, where she was a nurse; she | 11 | | also worked in the Security Department at Carson Pirie Scott; | 12 | | she retired from Carson's in 1994; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Julia Smith was an avid reader and community | 14 | | historian; as a Board Member, she was the beloved Sergeant at | 15 | | Arms of the Chesterfield Community Council for more than 25 | 16 | | years; she was also a former active member of the Happy Action | 17 | | Seniors at St. Joachim Church; she was a dependable volunteer | 18 | | and active in her community; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Julia Smith was preceded in death by her parents; | 20 | | her husband, Samuel Jerome Smith; her brother, James H. Lewis; | 21 | | and her sister, Mary R. Cleary; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Julia Smith is survived by her daughter, Waunema | 2 | | Smith; her brother, Emmett R. Lewis; her sister, Teresa L. | 3 | | (Maurice) Thornton; and her many other family members and | 4 | | friends; therefore, be it
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 7 | | Julia "Becky" Lewis Smith and extend our sincere condolences to | 8 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 9 | | further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 | | presented to the family of Julia Smith as an expression of our | 12 | | deepest sympathy.
