| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Virginia L. Secrest of Wood River, who | 4 | | passed away on August 20, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Virginia Secrest was born in Mitchell to Herbert | 6 | | J. and Vesta E. (Waggoner) Harshbarger on March 22, 1928; she | 7 | | married Albert Seymore in 1946, and he passed away in 1948; she | 8 | | married Alfred Nagel in 1953, and the marriage ended in 1970; | 9 | | she married Kenneth Secrest in 1976, and he passed away in | 10 | | 2002; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Virginia Secrest worked as a clerk and typist for | 12 | | the Granite City Army Depot for 22 years; after retirement, she | 13 | | dedicated herself to honoring veterans of the U.S. Armed | 14 | | Forces; she led efforts to place flags on the graves of | 15 | | veterans in the Upper Alton Cemetery; the hallmarks of her work | 16 | | are the flagpole along Home Adams Parkway and the establishment | 17 | | of the Avenue of Flags flown every Memorial Day; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Virginia Secrest was preceded in death by her | 19 | | parents; her husbands; her daughter, Linda Seymore; her sons, | 20 | | Terry and Gary Nagel; her stepson, Wayne Allen Secrest; her | 21 | | stepdaughter, Janis Johnson; her three sisters; and her four | 22 | | brothers; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Virginia Secrest is survived by her sons, Paul | 2 | | (Mary) Nagel, David (Terrie) Nagel, and John (Kim Moore) Nagel; | 3 | | her 13 grandchildren; her 16 great-grandchildren; and her | 4 | | daughters-in-law, Rebecca Nagel and Renee Nagel; therefore, be | 5 | | it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 8 | | Virginia L. Secrest and extend our sincere condolences to her | 9 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 10 | | further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of Virginia Secrest as an expression of | 13 | | our deepest sympathy.
