SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Clement P. Cunningham M.D. of Rock
4Island, who passed away on September 2, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham was born in Rock Island to John J.
6and Mary Ann Boyle Cunningham on April 13, 1922; he graduated
7from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa in 1942 and served
8with the U.S. Army during World War II; he graduated from the
9Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in 1945
10and completed his internship at Cook County Hospital from 1945
11to 1946; he married Florence McDonald at the St. Catherine of
12Siena Catholic Church in Oak Park on July 12, 1947; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham served on the medical staff at St.
14Anthony's Hospital in Rock Island, serving as president in
151959; he continued on the medical staff at Franciscan Hospital,
16currently UPH–Trinity Rock Island, serving nine years on the
17board of trustees as well as nine years as a member and officer
18of the board of trustees at the Robert Young Mental Health
19Center; he was also a member and past president of the Rock
20Island County Medical Society and a physician member of the
21Rock Island County Public Health Clinic, treating the indigent
22of the county; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham was a charter member of the St.
2Pius X Catholic Church, where he served as Eucharistic
3minister; he was also a member of the St. Vincent De Paul
4Society, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rock Island, the
5Allouez Council 658 Knights of Columbus, the Edward J. Bader
6Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and the Moline
7American Legion Post 246; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham received papal honors from His
9Holiness John Paul II and was installed as a Knight of the
10Order of St. Gregory; he also received the Thomas More Award
11from the National Council of Catholic Men; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham was preceded in death by his wife,
13Florence; his parents; and his siblings, Judge John Cunningham,
14Dr. Glen D. Cunningham, Madge Bernbrook, Cecelia Cunningham,
15and Rev. Monsignor Ambrose Cunningham; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham is survived by his children,
17Patrick (Jane) Cunningham M.D., Gregory (Janaan) Cunningham,
18Kathleen Yeager, and James Cunningham; his grandchildren,
19Brian (Julie), Casey, and Paul Cunningham and Daniel, Charlene,
20and Cory Yeager; and his great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Alex
21Cunningham; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Clement P. Cunningham M.D., and extend our sincere condolences
3to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
4it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Dr. Cunningham as an expression of
7our deepest sympathy.
