| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former | 4 | | Illinois State Representative Charles F. Keller, who passed | 5 | | away on January 22, 2019; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Representative Keller was born to Loami and Thelma | 7 | | Keller on January 22, 1939; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The Keller family created many successful | 9 | | businesses in the City of Effingham, including Keller Oil and | 10 | | the Keller Development Company; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Like his father and mother before him, | 12 | | Representative Keller carried on his family's entrepreneurial | 13 | | spirit and started many new businesses, including the Thelma | 14 | | Keller Convention Center; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Representative Keller was President of the | 16 | | Illinois Young Democrats and actively campaigned for the | 17 | | election of President John F. Kennedy; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Representative Keller remained interested in | 19 | | politics and was ultimately elected to the Illinois House of | 20 | | Representatives; he was reelected for five consecutive terms; |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Friends and members of the community knew | 3 | | Representative Keller as a kind and generous man; along with | 4 | | his wife, he spent a year in war-torn Bosnia-Herzegovina, where | 5 | | he helped the local people; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Representative Keller and his family hosted | 7 | | German exchange student, Uwe Blab, who helped to lead the | 8 | | Effingham High School basketball team to second place at the | 9 | | state tournament in 1980; he then returned to Germany, where he | 10 | | played professional basketball; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Representative Keller retained his love of | 12 | | business throughout his life and founded the Hofbrauhaus German | 13 | | restaurant and brewery in his later years; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Representative Keller is survived by his wife, | 15 | | Doris Jean Keller, and their children; therefore, be it
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 17 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 18 | | we mourn the passing of former Illinois State Representative | 19 | | Charles Keller and extend our sincere condolences to his | 20 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 21 | | further
