| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Steve R. | 4 | | Stroud of Elgin, who passed away on April 5, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud was born in
Aurora to James and | 6 | | Eunice (Rudolf) Stroud on November 23, 1942; he graduated from | 7 | | East Aurora High School in 1960 and served in the
United States | 8 | | Army from 1960 to 1963; he was
stationed in Berlin and learned | 9 | | Russian at the USA
Language School in California; he earned the | 10 | | Armed
Forces Expeditionary Medal (Berlin), the Good Conduct
| 11 | | Medal, and the Expert (M-14 Rifle) Army of Occupation
Medal | 12 | | (Berlin); following his service, he earned his teaching degree | 13 | | at Northern Illinois University; he married Laura in 1992; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud became a foreign language teacher at | 15 | | Maine East High School and Maine South
High School in Park | 16 | | Ridge; he taught Russian, French, and
German, took students on | 17 | | trips to Russia and France, and wrote his own Russian
textbook; | 18 | | he earned a
master's degree from the University of Illinois and | 19 | | retired from Maine Township High School
District 207 in 1993; | 20 | | and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud's first retirement project was | 22 | | restoring his and Laura's historic
home on Douglas Ave; he had |

| 1 | | a passion for historic research and wrote a three volume series | 2 | | on the old homes in Elgin as well as a history of Elgin's city | 3 | | cemetaries; he also chronicled many of Elgin's historic | 4 | | bungalow homes; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud served as a board member and | 6 | | researcher for the Elgin History Museum and co-chaired
the | 7 | | Annual Bluff City Cemetery Walk for 11 years with Laura; he | 8 | | served on the Design Review Subcommittee for the Elgin Heritage
| 9 | | Commission
and was a founding member and past president of | 10 | | A.B.O.D.E. (Admirers of Beautiful Old Dwellings in Elgin); and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud enjoyed flea markets and auctions, | 12 | | plays and musicals, and traveling with Laura; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud was preceded in death by his parents; | 14 | | his brother, Michael Stroud; his
sister, Patricia Stroud; and | 15 | | his stepdaughter, Anne Beauregard; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud is survived by his wife, Laura; his | 17 | | stepson, Scott Beauregard; his brother, Tom
(Francine) Stroud; | 18 | | his sister-in-law, Georgette Neumann; his grandchildren, | 19 | | Gabriel and Rowan
Beauregard and Jacqueline and Kaitlin | 20 | | Graziano; his nieces and nephews, Rebecca Smith,
Amy Stroud, | 21 | | and Michael Scott Stroud; and numerous special friends and | 22 | | colleagues; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 2 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 3 | | we mourn the passing of Steve R. Stroud and extend our sincere | 4 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 5 | | him; and be it further
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 | | presented to the family of Steve Stroud as an expression of our | 8 | | deepest sympathy.
