| 2 | | WHEREAS, Northwestern University's Dance Marathon is one | 3 | | of the largest student-run
philanthropic groups in the world; | 4 | | every year, fundraising begins in the fall, culminating in an | 5 | | over 1,000 student, 30-hour dance marathon in March; this | 6 | | year's marathon will take place March 6 through March 8; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Started in 1975, the Dance Marathon has raised | 8 | | over 20 million dollars for over 30 unique beneficiaries | 9 | | throughout its 46 year history; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, This year, the primary beneficiary of the Dance | 11 | | Marathon is Children's Home & Aid, which is a nonprofit | 12 | | dedicated to recovering neglected children's health, hope, and | 13 | | faith in the people around them; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The money raised from the Dance Marathon will | 15 | | provide the children under Children's Home & Aid's care with | 16 | | counseling, expression therapy, and mentor programs, which | 17 | | will eventually lead to a permanent home placement; this year, | 18 | | the Marathon dancers will specifically work with the Daniel F. | 19 | | and Ada L. Rice Child and Family Center, a foster shelter | 20 | | located in Evanston; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, The Evanston Community Foundation will be the |

| 1 | | secondary beneficiary of the Dance Marathon for the | 2 | | twenty-third year in a row; the Evanston Community Foundation | 3 | | works to strengthen Evanston and the surrounding communities by | 4 | | awarding grants and endowment funds to deserving individuals, | 5 | | families, and organizations with the goal of helping Evanston | 6 | | thrive; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, The Dance Marathon not only raises money for | 8 | | deserving causes but also gives Northwestern students a college | 9 | | community and teaches them the importance of philanthropy and | 10 | | services as well as leadership and career skills; therefore, be | 11 | | it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 13 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 14 | | we commend the Northwestern University Dance Marathon for their | 15 | | annual months-long fundraising and charitable efforts; and be | 16 | | it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the Northwestern University Dance Marathon as a | 19 | | symbol of our esteem and respect.
