AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 767

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 767 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
5Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by changing
6Section 2705-210 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2705/2705-210)  (was 20 ILCS 2705/49.15)
8    Sec. 2705-210. Traffic control and prevention of
9accidents. The Department has the power to develop,
10consolidate, and coordinate effective programs and activities
11for the advancement of driver education, for the facilitation
12of the movement of motor vehicle traffic, and for the
13protection and conservation of life and property on the streets
14and highways of this State and to advise, recommend, and
15consult with the several departments, divisions, boards,
16commissions, and other agencies of this State in regard to

1those programs and activities. The Department has the power to
2aid and assist the counties, cities, towns, and other political
3subdivisions of this State in the control of traffic and the
4prevention of traffic accidents. That aid and assistance to
5counties, cities, towns, and other political subdivisions of
6this State shall include assistance with regard to planning,
7traffic flow, light synchronizing, preferential lanes for
8carpools, and carpool parking allocations.
9    To further the prevention of accidents, the Department
10shall conduct a traffic study following the occurrence of any
11accident involving a pedestrian fatality that occurs at an
12intersection of a State highway. The study shall include, but
13not be limited to, consideration of alternative geometric
14design improvements, traffic control devices, and any other
15improvements that the Department deems necessary. The
16Department shall make the results of the study available to the
17public on its website.

19    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
20becoming law.".
