| | 2 | | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 767 by replacing | | 3 | | everything after the enacting clause with the following:
| | 4 | | "Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
| | 5 | | Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by changing | | 6 | | Section 2705-210 as follows:
| | 7 | | (20 ILCS 2705/2705-210) (was 20 ILCS 2705/49.15)
| | 8 | | Sec. 2705-210. Traffic control and prevention of | | 9 | | accidents. The Department
has the power to develop, | | 10 | | consolidate, and coordinate effective
programs
and activities | | 11 | | for the advancement of driver education, for the
facilitation | | 12 | | of the movement of motor vehicle traffic, and for the
| | 13 | | protection and conservation of life and property on the streets | | 14 | | and
highways of this State and to advise, recommend, and | | 15 | | consult with the
several departments, divisions, boards, | | 16 | | commissions, and other agencies
of this State in regard to |

| | 1 | | those programs and activities. The
Department has the power to | | 2 | | aid and
assist the counties, cities, towns, and other political | | 3 | | subdivisions of
this State in the control of traffic and the | | 4 | | prevention of traffic
accidents. That aid and assistance to | | 5 | | counties, cities, towns,
and other
political subdivisions of | | 6 | | this State shall include assistance with regard
to planning, | | 7 | | traffic flow, light synchronizing, preferential lanes for
| | 8 | | carpools,
and carpool parking allocations.
| | 9 | | To further the prevention of accidents, the Department | | 10 | | shall conduct a traffic study following the occurrence of any | | 11 | | accident involving a pedestrian fatality that occurs at an | | 12 | | intersection of a State highway. The study shall include, but | | 13 | | not be limited to, consideration of alternative geometric | | 14 | | design improvements, traffic control devices, and any other | | 15 | | improvements that the Department deems necessary. The | | 16 | | Department shall make the results of the study available to the | | 17 | | public on its website. | | 18 | | (Source: P.A. 91-239, eff. 1-1-00.)
