AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 2135

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 2135, AS AMENDED,
3with reference to page and line numbers of House Amendment No.
45, as follows:
 
5on page 12, by deleting lines 3 through 15; and
 
6on page 35, immediately below line 11, by inserting the
7following:
 
8    "Section 15-37. The Cook County Forest Preserve District
9Act is amended by changing Section 40 as follows:
 
10    (70 ILCS 810/40)  (from Ch. 96 1/2, par. 6443)
11    Sec. 40. The corporate authorities of forest preserve
12districts, having the control or supervision of any forest
13preserves, may erect and maintain within such forest preserves,
14under the control or supervision of such corporate authorities,

1edifices to be used for the collection and display of animals
2as customary in zoological parks, and may collect and display
3such animals, or permit the directors or trustees of any
4zoological society devoted to the purposes aforesaid to erect
5and maintain a zoological park and to collect and display
6zoological collections within any forest preserve now or
7hereafter under the control or supervision of such forest
8preserve district, out of funds belonging to such zoological
9society, or to contract with the directors or trustees of any
10zoological society on such terms and conditions as may to such
11corporate authorities seem best, relative to the erection,
12operation and maintenance of a zoological park and the
13collection and display of such animals within such forest
14preserve, out of the tax provided in Section 41.
15    Such forest preserve district may charge, or permit such
16zoological society to charge an admission fee. The proceeds of
17such admission fee shall be devoted exclusively to the
18operation and maintenance of such zoological park and the
19collections therein. All such zoological parks shall be open to
20the public without charge for a period equivalent to 52 days
21each year. Beginning on the effective date of this amendatory
22Act of the 101st General Assembly through June 30, 2022, any
23such zoological parks shall be open to the public without
24charge for a period equivalent to 52 days. All such zoological
25parks shall be open without charge to organized groups of
26children in attendance at schools in the State. The managing

1authority of the zoological park may limit the number of any
2such groups in any given day and may establish other rules and
3regulations that reasonably ensure public safety,
4accessibility, and convenience, including but not limited to
5standards of conduct and supervision. Charges may be made at
6any time for special services and for admission to special
7facilities within any zoological park for the education,
8entertainment or convenience of visitors.
