| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Bette K. Jordan on December 2, 2018 at | 4 | | the age of 98; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jordan, the daughter of Oscar C. and Eva | 6 | | Conway Kleinow, grew up in Oak Park and later moved to River | 7 | | Forest; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jordan had a long career in public | 9 | | relations, learning the trade while working at the Patricia | 10 | | Stevens Modeling and Talent Agency in Chicago during the 1950s; | 11 | | she handled press relations and publicity for the Miss Chicago | 12 | | contest, which was part of the Miss America organization; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jordan eventually became the head of public | 14 | | relations for the Oak Park Public Schools, a position she held | 15 | | for 17 years; she later had a second career as a real estate | 16 | | broker for F.C. Pilgrim Co. in Oak Park, where she was a member | 17 | | of the Million Dollar Club; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jordan was an accomplished writer, | 19 | | publishing articles in the Chicago Tribune and, as a working | 20 | | mother, was seen to be ahead of her time; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jordan was a longtime member of River Forest | 2 | | Presbyterian Church and was active in several charities, | 3 | | including the Animal Care League and the Anti-Cruelty Society; | 4 | | and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jordan was preceded in death by her parents; | 6 | | her husband, Forbes E. Jordan; her sister, Violet Rottschafer; | 7 | | and her brother, Jack P. Kleinow; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jordan was the mother of Susan Jordan, Sally | 9 | | Jordan, and Nancy Jordan; the grandmother of Sarah Rose Jordan | 10 | | and Nicholas Jordan Diefenbach; and the aunt of many nieces and | 11 | | nephews; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 14 | | Bette K. Jordan and extend our sincere condolences to her | 15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 16 | | further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Bette Jordan as an expression of our | 19 | | deepest sympathy.
