| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Archie Melvin Strandlund of Moline, who | 4 | | passed away on March 16, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund was born in Mora, Minnesota to | 6 | | Leo and Ethel Billstrom Strandlund on January 16, 1921; he | 7 | | served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and became a "plank | 8 | | owner" when he was assigned to the commissioning crew of the | 9 | | USS New Jersey, which became the Navy's most decorated | 10 | | battleship; he was a Gunner's Mate Second Class and manned a | 11 | | 40-millimeter anti-aircraft gun during combat operations in | 12 | | the Pacific; he married Lavina Dillman on June 6, 1945; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund was a tool and die maker with | 14 | | John Deere Farm Implement Manufacturers and John Deere Plow and | 15 | | Planter for 37 years, retiring in 1983; he continued to take | 16 | | classes and teach for 20 years in the Davenport Community | 17 | | School District and community college machine technology | 18 | | programs; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund enjoyed reading books written | 20 | | in Swedish in his spare time; his home workshop was open to | 21 | | all, and if he could not make a repair, the project could be | 22 | | deemed "unfixable"; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund was preceded in death by his | 2 | | wife of 73 years, Lavina; his parents; his brother, Ernest; and | 3 | | his sister, Jeanne; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund is survived by his daughter, | 5 | | Gloria (John) Vana; his son, Roger (Carol) Strandlund; his | 6 | | grandchildren, Craig (Rouxle) Vana, Kristin Vana, Amy (Travis) | 7 | | Jargo, and Tim Strandlund; his great-grandchildren, Natalie | 8 | | Roelofse Vana and Heidi Lavina Vana; his brothers, Marvin, | 9 | | Vernon, and John; his sister, Louise Broehl; and numerous | 10 | | nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | Archie Melvin Strandlund and extend our sincere condolences to | 14 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 15 | | further
