| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Edward James "Ed" Collins Jr., who passed | 4 | | away on February 20, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ed Collins was born in Lawrence,
Massachusetts to | 6 | | Mary Elizabeth Rogers and Edward James Collins Sr. on March 17, | 7 | | 1933; he graduated from Brighton High School in
Boston in 1952 | 8 | | and served for three years in the U.S. Army Security Agency, | 9 | | where he was stationed in South Korea for over a year and | 10 | | involved in top secret classified work; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Ed Collins returned from military service and | 12 | | enrolled at Boston University; he transferred to the University | 13 | | of
California, Berkeley and decided to become a journalist; he | 14 | | graduated in 1955 and took a position with the Brawley Daily | 15 | | News, a small community newspaper in Southern
California; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Ed Collins accepted a position as Executive | 17 | | Director of the
Oakland Junior Chamber of Commerce and then a | 18 | | public relations job with the California Medical
Association; | 19 | | and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Ed Collins married Dorothy Jane McCann and they | 21 | | lived in Kensington, California for the next 13 years; in 1977, |

| 1 | | he accepted a position with the American Association of Medical | 2 | | Society Executives and his family settled in Deerfield; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Ed Collins decided to
return to journalism and | 4 | | obtained a master's degree in journalism from Columbia College | 5 | | in Chicago in 2000; he began to work for the Lake County | 6 | | News-Sun newspaper as a general assignment
reporter for the | 7 | | next 14 years; he retired in December 2014; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Ed Collins is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and | 9 | | his son, Edward James
Collins III; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Edward James "Ed" Collins Jr. and extend our sincere | 13 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 14 | | him; and be it further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Ed Collins as an expression of our | 17 | | deepest sympathy.
