| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Loretta Dessen of Urbana, who passed away | 4 | | on September 4, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Loretta Dessen was born in Chicago to Philip and | 6 | | Lila (Ziven) Katz on May 26, 1931; she was raised in Rogers | 7 | | Park and graduated from Senn High School in 1949; she attended | 8 | | the University of New Mexico and the University of Illinois; | 9 | | she met Edward Dessen at a summer camp in Wisconsin, where they | 10 | | both worked as camp counselors; they married in 1951; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Loretta Dessen and her husband were known as the | 12 | | founders of Illini Studio photography, which remains in | 13 | | business today; in the mid 1960s, she established Farmlake Day | 14 | | Camp, where she taught many local children how to swim, ride | 15 | | horses, and sing camp songs; she was known for her repertoire | 16 | | of camp songs and her grilled cheese and tomato soup lunches; | 17 | | and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, After retiring from Illini Studio, Loretta Dessen | 19 | | welcomed students from the University of Illinois to Farmlake | 20 | | for barn dances and was fondly known as the Chex Mix Lady; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Loretta Dessen was preceded in death by her |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Loretta Dessen is survived by her children, David | 3 | | (Deborah) Dessen, Jonathon (Patricia) Dessen, and Ruth Ami | 4 | | Dessen; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her | 5 | | sister and brother-in-law, Adrian (Skookie) and Sandy Bernsen; | 6 | | and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Loretta Dessen and extend our sincere condolences to her | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 11 | | further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Loretta Dessen as an expression of | 14 | | our deepest sympathy.
