| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Mark E. Leipold, who passed away on | 4 | | October 12, 2019 at the age of 59; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mark Leipold was born on April 20, 1960 to Emil | 6 | | and Patricia Leipold and was raised in Belleville; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Mark Leipold was a graduate of Northwestern | 8 | | University, Class of 1982; he then studied at the DePaul | 9 | | University College of Law and graduated in 1986; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Mark Leipold worked at the Chicago law firm of | 11 | | Gould & Ratner LLP, where he was a longtime partner and chair | 12 | | of the corporate practice; he was committed to his clients and | 13 | | their welfare; he sought to assist all with kindness and | 14 | | respect, while maintaining the highest standards in the legal | 15 | | profession; those who worked with him saw his generous spirit, | 16 | | as well as his dedication to his work; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mark Leipold held leadership positions in many | 18 | | legal and business associations, including the Business | 19 | | Bankruptcy Committee of the American Bar Association's | 20 | | Business Section and the Turnaround Management Association's | 21 | | Chicago/Midwest Chapter; along with his colleagues, he was |

| 1 | | actively involved in Law Exchange International's global | 2 | | network of firms; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Mark Leipold was an adjunct lecturer at the DePaul | 4 | | University College of Law and at the John Marshall Law School; | 5 | | he was able to share his deep knowledge of the law while also | 6 | | being a mentor and an inspiration to the young students; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Mark Leipold had varied interests from the time he | 8 | | was young, including cooking, travel, and music, especially | 9 | | from the 1980s; he had a passionate love of science fiction in | 10 | | all mediums; he was a devoted fan of Northwestern Wildcat | 11 | | Football and loved tailgating at home games and, in recent | 12 | | years, traveling to bowl games; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mark Leipold was known for having a warm and kind | 14 | | spirit; he influenced the lives of all he met and had the kind | 15 | | of charisma that lit up a room when he entered; his | 16 | | intelligence, wit, and charm were rivaled by his goodwill and | 17 | | generosity; he had the ability to make you feel like you | 18 | | mattered, whether through reaching out with a caring gesture or | 19 | | a humorous quip; he strived to make people feel recognized and | 20 | | important; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mark Leipold fiercely loved his family, including | 22 | | his pets; he leaves behind many great friends and a legacy of |

| 1 | | joy; he will be remembered as a good and loving family man, | 2 | | friend, and colleague; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Mark Leipold was preceded in death by his parents, | 4 | | Emil and Patricia Leipold; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mark Leipold is survived by his wife, Susan Minor; | 6 | | his children, Anne, Peter, and Jane Leipold; his sisters, | 7 | | Tricia Bartley (David), Lauren Leipold, and Janet Formanek | 8 | | (Robert); his nieces, Kara, Alyson, Sarah, Katie, Chelsea, | 9 | | Kelly, and Jackie; his nephews, John, Nick, and Jack; as well | 10 | | as many great-nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | Mark E. Leipold and extend our sincere condolences to his | 14 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 15 | | further
