| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Dr. Yam Shun Tong, who passed away on | 4 | | September 25, 2019 at the age of 71; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yam Shun Tong was born on December 29, 1948 in | 6 | | Hong Kong; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yam Shun Tong was a longtime Oak Park resident | 8 | | and a Chicagoan through and through; he became a fanatic of the | 9 | | championship-winning 1985 Bears; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yam Shun Tong married Cindy, a physician's | 11 | | assistant at Doctors on Wheels in Chicago and the surrounding | 12 | | suburbs; they had two children, daughter San, a social media | 13 | | manager for the video on demand streaming service of the TV | 14 | | network Hallmark Channel in Los Angeles, and son Kevin, a | 15 | | mechanical engineer for the leading energy consultancy in | 16 | | Chicago, 360 Energy Group; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yam Shun Tong graduated with a Bachelor of | 18 | | Science in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois | 19 | | Chicago, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Northwestern University, | 20 | | and a medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic | 21 | | Medicine in 1987, making him a double doctorate; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yam Shun Tong was the OB/GYN department | 2 | | chairman of PCC Wellness at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park | 3 | | for over 15 years, as well as a dedicated physician for over 35 | 4 | | years; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yam Shun Tong offered amazing care to | 6 | | expectant mothers and many patients; he had a reputation for | 7 | | his compassionate bedside manner and his patient-first | 8 | | mentality; he was known to rush into the office when a patient | 9 | | was presenting acutely to provide immediate care or a referral | 10 | | that would meet their needs; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yam Shun Tong worked tirelessly, whether on a | 12 | | busy clinic day where he typically ended his days in the clinic | 13 | | with evening call hours for his obstetric patients or on a | 14 | | scheduled day off, although he considered himself to be on call | 15 | | 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yam Shun Tong was the "go-to" person for all | 17 | | doctors at West Suburban Medical Center because he offered | 18 | | personalized care while still being a role model; he was sought | 19 | | out for his expertise on gynecological issues, complicated | 20 | | cases, and uninsured patients; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yam Shun Tong was supportive of all his |

| 1 | | colleagues and, in turn, received respect for his wisdom and | 2 | | expertise; he leaves a legacy that will continue in the lives | 3 | | he touched and the community that he called family; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yam Shun Tong was preceded in death by his | 5 | | parents and four of his siblings; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yam Shun Tong is survived by his wife, Cindy; | 7 | | his children, San and Kevin; and three of his siblings; | 8 | | therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Dr. Yam Shun Tong and extend our sincere condolences to his | 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 13 | | further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Dr. Yam Shun Tong as an expression | 16 | | of our deepest sympathy.
