| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Donna Marie "Mama" Malnati of Chicago, | 4 | | who passed away on January 3, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Donna Malnati was born to Florence and Harold | 6 | | Carter on September 11, 1926; she grew up in Muscatine, Iowa; | 7 | | she worked at an arms plant during World War II; she then moved | 8 | | to Chicago and studied nursing at Northwestern University; she | 9 | | met her husband Rudy Malnati at Pizzeria Uno, and they later | 10 | | celebrated their union at Riccardo's Restaurant; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Donna Malnati worked as a registered nurse at | 12 | | Wesley Memorial and Passavant Memorial Hospitals; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Donna Malnati was especially known for her pizza | 14 | | dough-making prowess at Pizano's Pizza and Pasta; she initially | 15 | | learned the craft from her late husband, who developed his | 16 | | pizza prowess working at Pizzeria Uno; although she remained | 17 | | partial to Chicago deep dish pizza, she was instrumental in | 18 | | helping her son, Rudy Jr., develop Pizano's thin crust pizza | 19 | | dough; she spent many nights into her 80s fashioning dough | 20 | | balls from an old and secret family recipe; after a long night | 21 | | of dough-making, she enjoyed a Campari cocktail or a Black & | 22 | | White Scotch whisky; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Donna Malnati was preceded in death by her | 2 | | parents; her husband; her son, Robert (Susan) Malnati; and her | 3 | | stepson, Lou Malnati; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Donna Malnati is survived by her son, Rudy | 5 | | (Annette) Malnati Jr., and her grandchildren, Holly, Rudy, | 6 | | James, and Catherine; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Donna Marie "Mama" Malnati and extend our sincere condolences | 10 | | to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be | 11 | | it further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Donna Malnati as an expression of | 14 | | our deepest sympathy.
