| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Ronald "Ron" W. Smith of Silvis, who | 4 | | passed away on April 26, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ron Smith was born to Stuart and Elinor Lee | 6 | | (Flaherty) Smith in Davenport, Iowa on December 12, 1946; he | 7 | | graduated from Winola High School in 1965 and attended Black | 8 | | Hawk Community College in Moline; he married Nancy Jean | 9 | | Peterson in Aledo on June 26, 1967; Ron was a Vietnam veteran | 10 | | who served in United States Navy from 1967 to 1969 as a seaman | 11 | | stationed on the USS New Jersey; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Ron Smith was a welder for John Deere in the | 13 | | cylinder division for 43 years; he retired on October 29, 2009; | 14 | | and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Ron Smith was a member of St. John's Catholic | 16 | | Church in Viola; he was very active in area sports and was the | 17 | | former president of the Winola Booster Club, the Junior | 18 | | Sheriffs Fast Pitch Softball League, and the Girls Little Six | 19 | | Softball League; he was appreciated by the community and | 20 | | commended for his efforts in the development of the New Windsor | 21 | | Park and baseball diamond; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Ron Smith enjoyed coaching and was the coach for | 2 | | the men's fast-pitch softball team, the women's softball team, | 3 | | the Winola seventh and eighth grade football teams, the boys | 4 | | and girls basketball teams, the Sherrard basketball and | 5 | | football teams, the Junior Varsity girls softball team, his | 6 | | son's basketball team from fourth grade to eighth grade, and | 7 | | his grandson's seventh and eighth grade basketball teams in | 8 | | AlWood; he was also a referee for several sports for eight | 9 | | years; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Ron Smith was preceded in death by his parents and | 11 | | three nieces, Tammy Harrison, Toni Minteer, and Rachel | 12 | | Peterson; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Ron Smith is survived by his wife of 52 years, | 14 | | Nancy Jean Smith; his son, Shea Smith; his three daughters, | 15 | | Stephenie Smith, Tara (Chad) Case, and Brandy (Todd) Greenman; | 16 | | his brother, Steve Smith; his four sisters, Theresa Harrison, | 17 | | Chris (Randy) Cherrington, Jeannie Smith, and Melissa (Bart) | 18 | | Sorrels; and his five grandchildren, Alex Case, Ridge Greenman, | 19 | | Bailee Case, Briar Greenman, and Ganon Greenman; therefore, be | 20 | | it
