| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Donald Alfred "Don" Oppenheimer of | 4 | | Moline, who passed away on August 25, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Don Oppenheimer was born in Moline to Alfred and | 6 | | Nina Oppenheimer on January 27, 1928; he served in the U.S. | 7 | | Navy during WWII; he earned a degree in mechanical engineering | 8 | | from Iowa State University; he married Nancy Haddick on March | 9 | | 24, 1951, and she preceded him in death on November 1, 2010; | 10 | | and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Alongside his grandfather Fred Harrington, Don | 12 | | Oppenheimer co-founded the Harrington Signal Company in | 13 | | Moline; he worked with his brothers Ed and Gene for 57 years; | 14 | | he retired in 2008; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Don Oppenheimer served on the Salvation Army Board | 16 | | for more than two decades; he also served on the boards of the | 17 | | former Lutheran Hospital and the First Congregational Church; | 18 | | he was a member of the Moline Rotary Club for over 50 years; | 19 | | and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Don Oppenheimer was known for his unwavering | 21 | | honesty, kindness, fairness, and generosity; he enjoyed |

| 1 | | watching wildlife from his porch, dancing with his wife at | 2 | | special occasions, and attending family vacations at Crystal | 3 | | Lake, Michigan; he was a remarkable caregiver for his wife | 4 | | Nancy when she became ill; he will be remembered for his strong | 5 | | love for his wife, family, and home; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Don Oppenheimer was preceded in death by his wife, | 7 | | Nancy Oppenheimer, and his brother, Edward "Ed" Oppenheimer; | 8 | | and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Don Oppenheimer is survived by his children, John | 10 | | (Nancy) Oppenheimer, M.D., Linda (partner, Troyleen Brown) | 11 | | Oppenheimer, M.D., and Susan (Brett) Owen; his grandchildren | 12 | | and their spouses, Laura Oppenheimer and Daveed Tuck, Karl | 13 | | Oppenheimer, Oliver and Anna Owen, Pete and Stacey Owen, | 14 | | Charles and Rachel Owen, and Emily and Lucas Adams; his | 15 | | great-grandchildren, Emerson and Del Odom, Aubryn and Chase | 16 | | Owen, Austin and Driston Owen, and Lucas and Lyla Owen; his | 17 | | brother, Gene (Deanna) Oppenheimer; and his sister-in-law, | 18 | | Ellen Oppenheimer; therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 21 | | Donald Alfred "Don" Oppenheimer and extend our sincere | 22 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 23 | | him; and be it further
