| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Robert "Bob" Gilpin of Newman, who passed | 4 | | away on November 26, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bob Gilpin was born in Decatur to Clark and Opal | 6 | | Gilpin on January 9, 1935; he was raised in Atwood and | 7 | | graduated from Atwood High School in 1953, lettering in all | 8 | | sports; he graduated from Eastern Illinois University, where he | 9 | | was a member of the football team for four years and a member | 10 | | of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity; he served in the U.S. | 11 | | Army; following active service, he served in the U.S. Army | 12 | | Reserve for five years; he married Nellie (Buoy) Gilpin on | 13 | | February 28, 1958; he earned a master's degree in Education | 14 | | from Eastern Illinois University; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Bob Gilpin was hired as the industrial arts | 16 | | teacher at Newman High School in June 1959; he coached | 17 | | football, basketball, and track; he later became the principal | 18 | | of Newman High School and then became the principal at Homer | 19 | | High School, where he worked for 18 years; following his | 20 | | retirement from teaching, he worked for Weberg Furniture and | 21 | | Rhodes Furniture in Champaign; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Bob Gilpin was an active member of Newman United |

| 1 | | Methodist Church for over 62 years; he remained an active | 2 | | supporter of both Eastern Illinois University and the Tau Kappa | 3 | | Epsilon fraternity until the recent pandemic; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Bob Gilpin is survived by his wife of 62 years, | 5 | | Nellie; his two sons, Gary E. Gilpin and Brent A. Gilpin | 6 | | (Colleen); his grandchildren, Ashley Gilpin, Dakota Gilpin, | 7 | | Joseph Gilpin, and Brittany Rondeau; and his | 8 | | great-grandchildren, Lexi, Aurora, and Theo; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Robert "Bob" Gilpin and extend our sincere condolences to his | 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 13 | | further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Bob Gilpin as an expression of our | 16 | | deepest sympathy.
