SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
815 ILCS 505/2WWW new

    Amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. Provides that, subject to federal law and regulation, no provider of telephone, cellular telephone, television, Internet, energy, medical alert system, or water services shall impose a fee for termination or early cancellation of a service contract if the customer dies before the end of the contract. Provides that every violation is an unlawful practice within the meaning of the Act.

1    AN ACT concerning business.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business
5Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2WWW as follows:
 
6    (815 ILCS 505/2WWW new)
7    Sec. 2WWW. Termination or early cancellation fees for
8deceased persons.
9    (a) Subject to federal law and regulation, no provider of
10telephone, cellular telephone, television, Internet, energy,
11medical alert system, or water services shall impose a fee for
12termination or early cancellation of a service contract in the
13event the customer has deceased before the end of the
14contract.
15    (b) Every violation of this Section is an unlawful
16practice within the meaning of this Act.
