SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

105 ILCS 5/27-23.15 new

Amends the Courses of Study Article of the School Code. Provides that a school district may offer its students a course on gun safety as part of its curriculum during the school day or as part of an after-school program. Provides that the State Board of Education may prepare and make available to school boards resources on gun safety that may be used as guidelines for the development of a course. Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 27-23.15 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/27-23.15 new)

Sec. 27-23.15. Gun safety. A school district may offer its students a course on gun safety as part of its curriculum during the school day or as part of an after-school program. The State Board of Education may prepare and make available to school boards resources on gun safety that may be used as guidelines for the development of a course under this Section.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
