SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2310/2310-710 new

    Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that, for license renewals occurring on or after January 1, 2023, Emergency Medical Services personnel must complete at least one one-hour course of training on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias per license renewal period. Contains training requirements. Provides that completion of the course may count toward meeting minimum credit hours required for relicensure requirements. Provides that specified training may count toward the continuing education required under the amendatory provisions. Provides that the Department of Public Health may adopt rules for the implementation of the amendatory provisions. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
5Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6amended by adding Section 2310-710 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2310/2310-710 new)
8    Sec. 2310-710. Emergency Medical Services personnel;
9continuing training on Alzheimer's disease and other
10dementias.
11    (a) In this Section, "Emergency Medical Services
12personnel" means a person licensed or registered under any of
13the levels of licensure defined in Section 3.50 of the
14Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems Act, including, but
15not limited to, Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency
16Medical Technician-Intermediate, Advanced Emergency Medical
17Technician, Paramedic (EMT-P), or Emergency Medical Responder.
18    (b) For license renewals occurring on or after January 1,
192023, Emergency Medical Services personnel must complete at
20least one one-hour course of training on the diagnosis,
21treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease or
22other dementias per license renewal period. This training
23shall include, but not be limited to, assessment and

1diagnosis, effective communication strategies, and management
2and care planning.
3    (c) Emergency Medical Services personnel may count one
4hour for completion of the course toward meeting the minimum
5credit hours required for Emergency Medical Services personnel
6relicensure requirements.
7    (d) Any training on Alzheimer's disease and other
8dementias applied to meet any other State licensure
9requirement, professional accreditation or certification
10requirement, or health care institutional practice agreement
11may count toward the continuing education required under this
12Section.
13    (e) The Department may adopt rules for the implementation
14of this Section.
 
15    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
16becoming law.
