SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
415 ILCS 170/40 new

    Amends the PFAS Reduction Act. Provides that the Agency shall establish a take back program for local fire departments and fire protection districts that use and store firefighting foam identified as having added perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances, otherwise known as PFAs. Provides that the program will be available to those fire departments or fire districts who have participated in the annual survey under the Act. Provides that the program shall provide funding and resources to assure the proper destruction of these products, however not require the participation of any fire department or fire protection district.

1    AN ACT concerning safety.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The PFAS Reduction Act is amended by adding
5Section 40 as follows:

7    (415 ILCS 170/40 new)
8    Sec. 40. PFAs disposal program. The Agency shall establish
9a take back program for local fire departments and fire
10protection districts that use and store firefighting foam
11identified as having added perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl
12substances, otherwise known as PFAs. This program will be
13available to those fire departments or fire districts who have
14participated in the annual survey conducted in accordance with
15Section 25. This program shall provide funding and resources
16to assure the proper destruction of these products, however
17not require the participation of any fire department or fire
18protection district. This program shall commence within six
19months of becoming law and continue for a period of five years
20or until no foam containing PFAS is reported in the annual
21survey.
