AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 5078

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 5078 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
5changing Section 3-664 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-664)
7    Sec. 3-664. Gold Star license plates. Upon proper
8application, the Secretary of State shall issue registration
9plates designated as Gold Star license plates to any Illinois
10resident who is the surviving widow or widower, to each parent
11who is an Illinois resident, and to each Illinois resident who
12is a child, stepchild, child through adoption, brother,
13half-brother, sister, or half-sister, widower, sibling,
14daughter, son, or parent of a person who served in the Armed
15Forces of the United States and lost his or her life while in
16service whether in peacetime or war. The surviving widow or

1widower, each of the parents, and each child, stepchild, child
2through adoption, brother, half-brother, sister, or
3half-sister and each surviving parent, daughter, son, and
4sibling shall be issued one or more sets of registration
5plates. Registration plates issued under this Section shall be
6for first division vehicles and second division vehicles of
78,000 pounds or less. The Secretary may, in his or her
8discretion, allow the plates to be issued as vanity or
9personalized plates in accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this
10Code. No registration fee shall be required from a surviving
11widows, widowers, parents, or children of persons widow,
12widower, or parent of a person who served in the Armed Forces
13of the United States: and lost his or her life while in service
14while in wartime.
15        (1) who lost their lives during World War I, World War
16    II, or during any subsequent period of armed hostilities
17    in which the United States was engaged before July 1,
18    1958;
19        (2) who lost or lose their lives after June 30, 1958:
20    while engaged in military operations involving conflict
21    with an opposing foreign force; or while serving with
22    friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict in
23    which the United States is not a belligerent party against
24    an opposing armed force; or
25        (3) who lost or lose their lives after March 28, 1973,
26    as a result of: an international terrorist attack against

1    the United States or a foreign nation friendly to the
2    United States, recognized as such an attack by the
3    Secretary of Defense; or military operations while serving
4    outside the United States (including the commonwealths,
5    territories, and possessions of the United States) as part
6    of a peacekeeping force.
