SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
5 ILCS 375/6.17 new

    Amends the State Employees Group Insurance Act of 1971. Provides that for the surviving spouse and surviving dependent children of an eligible member employee who is injured in the course of employment and subsequently dies from such injuries sustained in the course of employment, the program of health benefits shall pay 100% of the expenses of such persons without the imposition of any deductible or copayment. Provides that the specified payment for health benefits shall continue for the surviving spouse until that person is remarried and shall continue for the surviving dependent children until such persons cease to be dependents. Provides that the provisions shall apply to specified surviving dependents as of January 1, 2022 and thereafter. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The State Employees Group Insurance Act of 1971
5is amended by adding Section 6.17 as follows:
 
6    (5 ILCS 375/6.17 new)
7    Sec. 6.17. Surviving dependent coverage.
8    (a) Notwithstanding any rule or provision of law to the
9contrary, for the surviving spouse and surviving dependent
10children of an eligible member employee who is injured in the
11course of employment and subsequently dies from such injuries
12sustained in the course of employment, the program of health
13benefits shall pay 100% of the expenses of such persons
14without the imposition of any deductible or copayment.
15    (b) The payment for health benefits as provided under
16subsection (a) shall continue for the surviving spouse until
17that person is remarried and shall continue for the surviving
18dependent children until such persons cease to be dependents
19as defined under this Act.
20    (c) The provisions of this Section shall apply to all
21persons described under subsection (a) as of January 1, 2022
22and thereafter.

1    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
2becoming law.
